Somalian national charged after stabbing at migrant hotel

Police have charged a man following stabbing over the weekend at a hotel used to house asylum seekers. Abdifatah Yusuf Adani, 22, has been charged with one count of attempted murder after stabbing a staff worker at the Stanwell Hotel in Stanwell.

Armed officers were dispatched to the hotel at 6.30pm on Saturday evening, August 15. Adani, a Somalian national, has been remanded in custody and will appear at Staines Magistrates Court this morning, August 17. Paramedics took the victim, a man in his 30s, to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

He is now in a stable condition, Surrey Police wrote in their latest update. “There remains a heightened police presence in the area,” the police said in a statement shared on Sunday night.

Earlier on Saturday, Detective Superintendent Kate Hyder of Surrey Police said: “Due to the nature of the report this evening, armed officers were dispatched to the scene and assisted with the arrest. There remains a police presence in the area while we carry out initial enquiries.

“We understand this incident has caused concern within the local community, and I encourage you to speak to local officers.

Police said they are not pursuing anyone else connected to the incident.
