South Africa shines on the inaugural African Karting Cup


South African karting drivers claimed the highest spots throughout all three lessons on the African Karting Cup in Zwartkops, South Africa this weekend.

South Africa’s Muhammad Wally took the highest spot in OK-N, whereas Wian Boshoff and Max Boshoff claimed victory within the OK-J and Mini ROK lessons.

The African Karting Cup is a prestigious new karting occasion, which goals to spice up participation and improve alternatives for younger drivers trying to enter worldwide competitors. This 12 months’s OK-N winner will get the chance to compete on the FIA Karting World Championship, whereas the top-placed OK-J participant will obtain free entry to subsequent 12 months’s OK-N competitors.

The occasion builds on the profitable MENA Karting Cup with a global grassroots strategy.

FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem celebrated the success of the occasion, saying: “Congratulations to all rivals who took half within the first Africa Karting Cup in collaboration with Motorsport South Africa. Because of the imaginative and prescient and dedication of Rodrigo Rocha, FIA Vice-President for Sport – Africa, ROK Cup SA and volunteers, the occasion drew 61 rivals from 9 African nations, offering the possibility for them to take their essential first steps on the motorsport expertise staircase. Competitions like this are on the coronary heart of my FIA growth staff’s mission to double motorsport participation on a world scale.”

The occasion passed off at Zwartkops Raceway in Gauteng, South Africa. Opponents from Angola, Botswana, Nigeria, Namibia, Madagascar, Kenya, Zimbabwe, South Africa and  Mozambique competed on the inaugural race weekend.

ROK SA Generalist Supervisor, Cindy Van der Laan stated: “It’s thrilling to see the wealth of expertise we’ve got in South Africa and the remainder of the African Continent and hopefully this African Karting Cup will ignite higher curiosity and participation within the sport.”
