PRETORIA, Nov 12 (Reuters) – South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns gained the inaugural African Soccer League on Sunday, beating Wydad Casablanca of Morocco 2-0 within the second leg of the ultimate at Loftus Versfeld.

It gave them a 3-2 combination win within the first version of Africa’s effort at launching an excellent league, which was lowered from a deliberate 24-club league to a six-week, eight-team knockout event.

Trailing 2-1 from final weekend’s first leg in Casablanca, Sundowns evened the combination rating in stoppage time on the finish of the primary half by way of Peter Shalulile.

They added a second objective seven minutes into the second half when Aubrey Modhiba stole away possession earlier than chipping the ball over the Wydad goalkeeper.

An excellent league for Africa was initially urged by FIFA president Gianni Infantino, who condemned related efforts in Europe whereas saying it may rework the sport in Africa.

He attended the match in Pretoria on Sunday, together with a capability crowd who had been granted free entry.
