Southeastern Giving Day experiences record-breaking support

HAMMOND — Southeastern Giving Day, an annual online event facilitated by the Southeastern Foundation in support of Southeastern Louisiana University, was held last week.

According to university officials, the 2026 Giving Day achieved its largest ever number of donors, as well as funds raised.

“We are appreciative of the remarkable outpouring of support during this year’s Giving Day,” said Southeastern President William S. Wainwright. “Over 2,700 individuals, a 20 percent increase over last year, demonstrated their commitment to ensuring the continued success of our university, our students, and our community. Together we have raised over $537,000, a 5.7 percent increase over last year’s historic mark, and we are excited to see the level of positive impact it will make.”

Led by Southeastern’s Office of University Advancement, the event allowed donors to select an individual college, department, organization, or project important to them, directly giving back to the areas toward which they feel most passionate.

“This year’s Giving Day demonstrated the power of what our Southeastern community can accomplish when we come together around our students and the future of our university,” said Interim Vice President for University Advancement Malayne Sharp. “We are incredibly grateful to every donor, student, graduate, faculty and staff member, and community partner who helped make this Giving Day such a success and ultimately helped create greater opportunities for our students.”

In partnership with the Department of Communication and Media Studies, this year’s Giving Day included a simulcast from the Robin Roberts Broadcast Media Center. On Giving Day, university officials, faculty, staff and community members spoke live on-air about their Giving Day campaigns and why it is important to give back to the university.

“The Giving Day simulcast provided a meaningful opportunity to showcase the power of the Robin Roberts Broadcast Media Center while connecting our students with a real-world broadcast experience,” said Communication and Media Studies Department Head Caroline Sawyer. “Bringing university and community voices together on air allowed us to highlight the many ways Giving Day supports Southeastern and our students. We are proud to partner in an event that not only strengthens the university, but also gives our students valuable hands-on experience in broadcast media.”
