South Korean actor Lee Jung Jae has contracted COVID -19 after returning to Korea. The Squid Game star recently created history by becoming the first Asian actor in history to win Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series.

According to Soompi, on September 20, Lee Jung Jae’s agency Artist Company announced that the actor had tested positive for COVID -19 after undergoing a routine PCR test upon his return to Korea. On September 18, Lee Jung Jae returned to Korea from the United States after his historic Emmy win.

“In accordance with disease control protocol, actor Lee Jung Jae underwent PCR testing after he returned to Korea on September 18, and his test results came back positive,” stated the agency in an official statement. “Actor Lee Jung Jae has currently halted all of his scheduled activities, and he is self-isolating in accordance with the guidelines of government health authorities.”

“Our agency will adhere strictly to health authorities’ guidelines and do our utmost to help our actor focus entirely on his recovery, while considering his health our top priority.” Per the report, Lee Jung Jae’s friend Jung Woo Sung and his Squid Game co-stars Park Hae Soo and Jung Ho Yeon—all of whom took the same flight with him back to Korea—have all tested negative.
