State won’t bow down before extremists: PM

ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Imran Khan has denounced violent acts by TLP and made it clear that the State would not bow down before a group of extremists.

He made these remarks while chairing a high-level meeting after the federal cabinet approved ban on TLP under the Anti-Terrorism Act. The prime minister was briefed by Interior and Foreign Affairs Ministers on the latest developments surrounding the TLP protests across Pakistan.

The foreign minister briefed the meeting from diplomatic aspect of the demands of TLP.

Earlier, the cabinet through a summary circulation approved the ban on TLP. Interior Ministry later issued a notification in this regard.

However, sources in government confirmed that actions are also being taken to freeze assets of TLP.

“Ministry also issued directives to SBP for freezing bank accounts of TLP”, a source told The Nation.

All weapons licences issued by the government to TLP are also being cancelled by the Interior Ministry.

Passports and CNICs of top leaders of TLP are also being blocked as further measures to restrict their movements.

The source said national security institutions are fully backing all the decisions being taken by the government.
