‘Strangers You Know’: M-Net series to dive into Karabo Mokoena’s death

South African true crime docuseries Strangers You Know returns for season two on M-Net (channel 101), on Sunday 9 January at 20:00, which will dive into the murder of Karabo Mokoena and more. 

‘STRANGERS YOU KNOW’ SEASON TWO

Season two of Strangers You Know will look into the murders of Anene Booysen, Jayde Panayiotou, the Van Breda family, and Karabo Mokoena. Strangers You Know will take a deep look into these deaths and the circumstances around it.

There will be four episodes this season which covers emotional interviews from the friends and families. There will also be an analysis by the lead investigators, forensic pathologists, and prosecutors, who were involved in each case. So, the series is set to be insightful and informative. 

“In a country such as ours, where violence especially against women, is so rife, these are some of the stories that need to be told,” said creator, producer and executive producer Chwayitisa Futshane, according to Channel 24. 

“In the second season the series really gets to grips with some of these crimes and if nothing else, our viewers will be reminded that sometimes the most brutal killers, are the strangers we know,” continued Futshane.

The series is produced by Combined Artistic Productions – the same production house that produces Carte Blanche.

WHAT TO EXPECT FROM THE SECOND SEASON 

The series kicks off with Mokoena’s death on Sunday 9 January. Mokoena’s death was labelled a femicide which reiginited the #MenAreTrash on Twitter. This was because other woman came forward with their stories.

“Karabo Mokoena thought she had found the man of her dreams when she started dating Forex trader Sandile Mantsoe. He appeared to be successful, intelligent and grounded in his spirituality. But when Karabo goes missing, her friends and family try to track her down at the last place she was seen. It soon becomes evident that Sandile is not the Prince Charming Karabo had first envisioned,” reads the log sheet according to the publication.

Here is a  summary of the other episodes.

  • Two: Sunday 16 January – Jayde Panayiotou. 
  • Three: Sunday 23 January – Anene Booysen.
  • Four: Sunday 30 January – Henri van Breda.
