Gadar – Ek Prem Katha (2001) is not just one of the biggest hits in Indian cinema, but a film that continues to be loved and regularly consumed, even after 22 years of its release. When it hit theaters on June 15, 2021, it created a frenzy in theaters. So it was shocking when Sunny Deol dropped the bomb before release, there were fears in the industry about its box office prospects. Dealers refused to buy it, while some suggested it looked like a ‘Punjabi film’! Sunny Deol spoke about this aspect at the relaunch premiere of Gadar – Ek Prem Kathaheld in Mumbai on Friday 9th June.
STUNNING: Sunny Deol opens up about the challenges facing Gadar’s theatrical release: “People used to say, ‘Yeh Punjabi film hai. Isse hindi mein dub karo’. Some distributors said: ‘Main toh nahin kharidunga yeh film’”.
Sunny Deol said: “Prick Gadar – Ek Prem Katha again, tab humein nahin pata tha ki yeh movie gadar mahayegi (smile). People used to say, ‘Yeah punjabi movie two. is Hindi I fold with’. Some dealers said, Main toh nahin kharidunga yes movie’. So we face many problems. But is movie I liked it so much it made everyone shut their mouths.! Unhone hello humein himmat di hello ki hum part 2 banayein.”
Gadar – Ek Prem Katha was re-released on June 9 nationwide as the sequel, bridge 2It’s all set to hit theaters on August 11 of this year. Like the first part, bridge 2 It also stars Sunny Deol, Ameesha Patel, and Utkarsh Sharma.

When Sunny was asked if she would ever pick up the hand pump to beat the bad guys again, Sunny Deol quipped: “Iss baar in login ne saare hand pumps chupa diye. first be hi nikaal diye!”
Director Anil Sharma was also present and commented: “Major movie I have made these thoughts Yeah Bharath what is there, what is the best in the world blockbuster drunk. Sometimes I succeed and sometimes I don’t. Gadar – Ek Prem Katha he time main pe sahi ho gaya. Sunny ji is humble. She knows from the inside (that the movie will work). However, she would ask me, ‘Sharma ji, challenge?’. I would say, ‘Chalegui nahin Mister, there is. there will be a lot.”
