VICTORIA, Texas – As summer begins and children are out of school, summer camps across Victoria are preparing for a busy season. Victoria Gymagic is one of the local organizations offering activities designed to keep children active and engaged during the break.
Owner Ashten McAfee Linney said summer is an important time for children to stay active, socialize and spend less time in front of screens.
“Screen time, too many kids are on phones and iPads too much,” Linney said. “Get them out, get them doing something active whether it’s here or whether it’s an outdoor camp, any kind of camp and socialize them.”
Linney said the gym was created to provide children with a safe and encouraging environment where they can explore activities that fit their interests and abilities.
She said programs like gymnastics can help children develop important life skills beyond athletics.
“It’s not just gymnastics, but in anything it helps them later on in life,” Linney said. “It helps hold them accountable, teaches them responsibilities, time management, how to be a team player, how to listen and follow instructions. Simple things that every young adult needs to know.”
This summer, Victoria Gymagic plans to offer a variety of camps and activities aimed at helping children stay active, social and engaged throughout the summer break.
