Nintendo revealed its latest 2D side scrolling Mario game in his Live on June 21and to the unprepared eye it might have seemed like a familiar return to the new super mario bros spin-offs of yesteryear. But longtime fans were quick to notice that Super Mario Bros. Wonder it looks full of additional animated flourishes that set it up to potentially be something much more.
the premise of Super Mario Bros. Wonder is that Mario and up to three other characters race through 2D platforming levels that change in real time thanks to a mind-blowing Wonder Flower power-up. Luigi, Peach, and Toad also join Yoshi and Dais.and this time, and everyone can transform into an elephant. But the things that already have fans so excited are the little touches that make it seem like Nintendo is really trying to spice up the retro presentation.
“I haven’t seen this kind of personality and style since the days of 2D sprites. Throughout WonderIn the trailer for, you can see Mario making a number of different faces and gestures as he runs, jumps, and climbs. Brief snippets of characters like Peach and Daisy imply that they’ll have a similar range of expressions. Nintendo has always been praised for its attention to small details that culminate in a fluid, tactile platforming experience that’s greater than the sum of its parts, and these additions are a perfect example of that.
Originally released on the Nintendo DS, the new super mario bros series offered a 2D version of the hit franchise to complement the plumber’s 3D sandbox adventures on console. However, the games were never as good as the NES, SNES, Game Boy, and Game Boy Advance games that they spiritually channeled, even when the sub-series came to Wii and Wii U.
