Teen allegedly abducted in Adelaide, escapes at an intersection

A teenager was walking along a South Australian road when a group of men allegedly drove beside him and abducted him.

The 17-year-old was walking along the Esplanade at Somerton Park, in Glenelg, when he noticed a white sedan driving slowly behind and heard the voice of two men.

Detective Inspector Kieran Baggoley said one of the men asked whether the teenager wanted a lift to which he declined.

“Again, the occupants of the car have asked if he wanted a lift and the boy has declined repeatedly,” Baggoley said.

The car allegedly stopped and two men got out and asked the teenager a third time whether he wanted a lift to which the boy said no.

“The two men have then forcibly pushed the boy into the car and have driven off,” Baggoley said.

There were four men in the car not known to the 17-year-old boy.

The boy could describe two of the four men, believed to be in their 30s to early 40s.

The first man is of Caucasian appearance, about 190 cm tall, with a large build and stocky.

He had a full black beard with a large amount of grey in it and was wearing a dark grey hoodie.

The second man is also of Caucasian appearance, about 180cm with a muscular build.

He was wearing a white beanie and an orange t-shirt.

Baggoley said the car drove along the Esplanade for two minutes before arriving at an intersection.

Throughout the car ride the men did not speak to the boy “despite the boy repeatedly asking to get out of the car”.

“He was not physically hurt in the car, he was not verbally threatened or robbed,” Baggoley said.

When the car stopped at traffic at an intersection the boy got out of the car and ran away.

“The men did not pursue him and he was able to go home and his parents contacted police,” Baggoley said.

The motive for the alleged abduction remains unclear.

Baggoley has asked members of the public who know anything about the incident to contact police.

He has also asked the men involved to come forward.

“We don’t know why you’ve done this… we’ve got a 17-year-old boy who has been grabbed on the side of the road, and until we have an explanation as to why, we will report this matter as seriously,” he added.
