Teen critical from ‘frenzied and horrific’ stabbing at 15th birthday party

No other injuries have been reported nor any arrests made.

Police are looking for two people and canvassing CCTV from nearby homes.

The people involved in the brawl were not believed to be linked to the property, and police are trying to piece together if and how the victim, his attackers, and the other people present are connected, Batchelor said.

The stabbing took place at an Airbnb police believe was hired for a 15-year-old’s birthday party.

“There was a limited number of guests that were invited to that party, however throughout the evening a large number had turned up.

“There were approximately 40 people in the front yard of that location.

“The majority of those people … they are quite young, probably in their teenage years,” Batchelor said.

A crime scene was established as the investigation commenced, with police seen combing the scene by torchlight, searching through bins and speaking with partygoers.

Officers remained there on Wednesday morning, with evidence markers, bloodied clothing and empty vodka bottles visible at the scene.

One neighbour told Nine’s Today program they heard “ruckus” at the party.

“Everybody was just screaming outside, most of the kids were saying ‘go away’ and then we just saw kids running back and forth, and then the cops showed up.

“I didn’t realise somebody got stabbed until a bit later.”

Police recovered multiple knives at the scene.

“It’s shocking,” Batchelor said.

“I don’t understand why young people carry knives, and we have situations like this, where we now have a 17-year-old boy who’s in a critical condition in hospital fighting for his life because he’s attended a party, I honestly don’t understand it.”

Police have appealed for dashcam footage or any other information from the public.
