With thousands of volunteers rolling up their sleeves to help out with the aftermath of Friday’s tornados, The Douglas County Health Department is encouraging volunteers to stay safe. Health Director Lindsay Huse said the violent tornados devasted areas of Douglas County which heightened the risk of tetanus. DCHD recommends anyone involved in cleaning up should have an up-to-date tetanus vaccination for at least 10 years. A tetanus vaccine clinic is being held Sunday, April 28 through May 2 at Common Ground Community Center in Elkhorn from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. In a press release, DCHD said this clinic is in response to Friday’s storms and those impacted.Children aged 18 years and younger must be with a parent or legal guardian if getting a vaccine. DCHD said anyone who sustains a minor injury like cuts or scraps while volunteering and it’s been more than 5 years since your last vaccination, you need to get an updated shot.
