In February 2024, the Centre for the Study of Organised Hate published a data-driven report titled, “Report 2024: Hate Speech Events in India”, analysing the rise of verified hate speech events targeting religious minorities in India throughout 2024.
In this video, we discuss the report’s findings. Political rallies, electoral campaign events, religious processions, protest marches, and cultural nationalist gatherings have increasingly become platforms for hate speech—often aimed at harassing minorities. We explore how the turbulent general election year, along with State elections in Maharashtra and Jharkhand, and a surge of hate rallies triggered by inflammatory claims about violence against Hindus in Bangladesh, have acted as catalysts for these disturbing incidents.
