NEW DELHI, Jul 28 (Reuters) – Just three months before the start of the 50+ World Cup, India’s cricket organizing board said the schedule would be adjusted and a duel between India and Pakistan could take place. on October 15 in Ahmedabad. among the affected parties.
World Cup schedules are usually announced one year before the start of the event, but the accessories for the tournament in India, scheduled for October 5, were announced last month.
The excessive delay has made fans planning to travel to India for the tournament uneasy and Indian board secretary Jay Shah confirmed that even the schedule announced last month is not final.
“Two or three boards have written asking for changes based on logistical challenges,” Shah told reporters on Thursday.
“There are some matches where there’s only a two-day gap, so it’s going to be hard to play and then travel the next day.”
“We are working with the ICC, and we should be able to clear it up in two or three days,” he said, referring to the governing International Cricket Council.
Organizers have not announced when and where fans can buy tickets and an ICC spokesman said it would be BCCI’s decision.
Media reported that the long-awaited India-Pakistan tie would be brought up a day as proper police security may not be possible on October 15, which marks the beginning of a Hindu festival.
India and Pakistan have been bitter rivals since they emerged as independent countries at the end of British colonial rule in 1947, fighting three wars since then and still clashing sabers when tensions rise.
Pakistan has said it would need government permission to travel to India for the World Cup, although the ICC is hopeful that it will participate.
The embittered neighbors have met only in multi-team events at neutral venues for the past decade.
