The Masked Singer finale reveals Galaxy Girl is famous singer whose sister is ALSO a pop hitmaker

Season 14 of The Masked Singer came to a grand finale on Wednesday evening with the unmasking of the final four contestants.

Left standing at the start of the final episode were Galaxy Girl, Cat Witch, Pugcasso and Crane.

After a triumphant season, Galaxy Girl was crowned the winner and had her identity revealed last, after Crane, Cat Witch and Pugcasso were unmasked in that order.

She threw a final curveball for the detectives by bringing out a celebrity friend, Jessica Simpson.

The pop star and actress was described as Galaxy Girl’s ‘bff,’ and her presence instantly set off chatter from the detectives.

The connection to Jessica, and a final clue about ‘pieces of me,’ led the detectives toward a unanimous guess.

Robin Thicke, Jenny McCarthy, Ken Jeong and Rita Ora all guessed that the woman in the Galaxy Girl costume was none other than Jessica’s sister, fellow singer and hitmaker Ashlee Simpson.

After throwing in another commercial break for suspense, Galaxy Girl was ready to remove her planet-shaped head.

With some assistance from Jessica, she pulled it off to reveal that she was indeed her sister Ashlee.

‘I’m kind of freaking out right now!’ she admitted after host Nick Cannon asked her how she felt about winning the competition.

‘Hi, I know you!’ she said as she gave him a hug before admitting that she knew the judges as well.

‘I love you guys. I have grown so much here, and I can’t even believe I won,’ she added breathlessly before pulling her sister Jessica close for a hug.

‘I love you,’ Ashlee told her sister sweetly, and Jessica returned the sentiment.

Ora went on to praise Simpson for managing to create a persona for her character, which put her leagues ahead of many of the other Masked Singer performers.

Cannon noted how unusual it was that Simpson had been competing against her own husband, Evan Ross, who was revealed to be Stingray earlier in the season

Simpson revealed that The Masked Singer was the latest step in her ongoing comeback, following a residency last year in Las Vegas.

When Cannon asked her what was next, the performer revealed that she would first be heading back to Vegas for more concert dates before she set off to write a new album.

Although she recently got back into performing live, Simpson hasn’t released a new LP since dropping her third album, Bittersweet World, in 2008.

It and her 2005 sophomore LP I Am Me followed a disastrous appearance on Saturday Night Live in 2004, when she was revealed to be lip syncing on live TV after the pre-recorded vocal track to the first song she performed that evening, Pieces Of Me, began to play by mistake.

After her band tried to play along, Simpson briefly danced a jig before walking off stage as SNL cut to a commercial, though she returned for the closing curtain call to explain: ‘My band started playing the wrong song, and I didn’t know what to do, so I thought I’d do a hoedown. I’m sorry. This is live TV. These things happen!’

Simpson later claimed that she had lost her voice earlier on Saturday due to inflammation caused by acid reflux, which forced her to use a prerecorded vocal track.

That explanation didn’t satisfy fans, however, and Simpson’s career suffered considerably despite her attempts to continue releasing music.

After her third album underperformed, she largely gave up making music and instead focused on acting, though Simpson continued singing when she played Roxie Hart in Chicago during its 2006 West End run and a 2009 run on Broadway, followed by performances in 2013 at the Hollywood Bowl.

The show opened with one of the detectives, Ken Jeong, doing his best to perform Benson Boone’s hit Mystical Magical despite major intonation issues.

After his hammy introduction, the show shifted into gear with the first performance from Galaxy Girl.

She gave an angsty performance of Olivia Rodrigo’s pop-punk tune Good 4 U, which made Robin Thicke think of Taylor Momsen, while Jenny McCarthy recounted earlier guesses of Jennifer Love Hewitt and Lindsay Lohan.

She and Rita Ora instantly discounted Jeong when he reminded them of his earlier guess that Galaxy Girl could be Emma Stone.

Next up was Cat Witch, but that character’s identity was never a secret — at least from the audience.

She was revealed to be the singer Kylie Cantrall back at the start of the season, though her identity was allegedly kept a secret from the celebrity detectives.

After the detectives were alerted to the deception — without having Cat Witch’s identity spoiled just yet — she managed to wow them with an emotional performance of JoJo’s Leave (Get Out).

McCarthy offered up guesses including Olivia Rodrigo, Addison Rae and Victoria Justice, while Thicke suggested that she might be Jamie Lynn Spears or Noah Cyrus. Jeong suggested it could be a KPop singer, possibly Lisa from Blackpink.

But Ora nailed it when she suggested Charli d’Amelio, before settling on her Descendants costar Kylie Cantrall.

Pugcasso changed up the pace of the show with a classic ballad, True Colors, which was first performed by Cyndi Lauper on her 1986 sophomore album.

The painting pug wowed the detectives with his smooth, emotive vocals.

Thicke recounted his earlier guesses — Ryan Tedder from OneRepublic, Jack Johnson — but he planned to save his guess for Pugcasso’s second performance. McCarthy got a Vance Joy vibe, but she thought Pugcasso’s voice sounded a bit like Gavin DeGraw.

But a previous clue said she had introduced him in the past on TV, which made her think it might be Shay Mooney of Dan + Shay, whom she had introduced on New Year’s Eve.

Jeong offered up some oddball guesses, including Dan Reynolds of Imagine Dragons, Matchbox Twenty singer Rob Thomas and Train frontman Pat Monahan.

But he teased the other detectives by saying he wouldn’t give his true final guess until after the second performance.

Ora keyed in on a Broadway clue, leading her toward Darren Criss. She also thought it could be Jason Mraz, but she worried he didn’t fit all the clues.

Ultimately, she suggested Pugcasso might have been a contestant on another singing competition, like American Idol or The Voice, but she admitted she was still stumped.

Crane was the fourth contestant to perform, and she raised the energy levels with a breathy rendition of Janet Jackson’s Billboard Hot 100 chart topper Together Again.

Thicke complimented her not only for her vocal skills, but also for being one of the best dancers The Masked Singer had ever seen.

That led him to guess that she might be the ballet icon Misty Copeland, but her vocals gave him an Ashanti or Mya vibe.

McCarthy also thought it could be Ashanti, while Jeong was laughed at when he suggested Taylor Swift.

Ora thought it might be Halle Bailey, which seemed more realistic to the other judges.

After the break, it was time to unveil the fourth-place finisher after audience voting.

The first of the four finalists to be unmasked was Crane after she came in last place after the first round of singing.

But before her unveiling, the singer Khalid made a surprise appearance, revealing that he was a close friend of Crane.

‘We go way, way back,’ he said, calling her ‘one of the most hard-working women in the industry.’

After he unveiled a plaque with multiple awards that Crane had won, Jeong suggested it might be Destiny’s Child singer Kelly Rowland.

Ora thought it could be Normani, while McCarthy seconded that guess.

Thicke concluded by going along with the others and guessing Normani due to multiple clues about Crane performing as part of a band.

And the judges turned out to be right on the money, as Crane lifted her long-necked mask to reveal herself as former Fifth Harmony singer Normani.

Host Nick Cannon included a humorous jab at Jeong, noting that all of the detectives except him had guessed correctly.

After the unmasking, Normani gave one final performance of Shontelle’s Top 40 hit Impossible, with Khalid joining her for support.

Before the next round of voting, the remaining three contestants all had a chance to perform again.

Before her song, Cat Witch gave a final clue indicating that a ‘mouse’ had been instrumental in her career ascent, which suggested she was a current or former Disney performer.

After she performed Tate McRae’s Greedy, Ora confidently guessed that it was her Descendants costar — and on-screen daughter — Kylie Cantrall, and McCarthy agreed.

After her unmasking, Cantrall raved about how fun it was to share behind-the-scenes insights into The Masked Singer with fans, even as the detectives remained clueless about her identity until the finale.

Ora concluded the segment by running up to the main stage to hug Cantrall and tell her how ‘proud’ she was of her.
