The masked singer returned Wednesday for a football-themed NFL night, bringing back four contestants from last week’s premiere, and a fifth new wild card contestant, The Pickle, who battled it out from inside their costumes for a chance of the coveted Golden Mask trophy.
Host-led Nick Cannon and supervised by unconditional panelists Robin Thicke, Ken Jeong, Jenny McCarthy and Nicole Scherzinger, in Wednesday’s exciting episode, The Cow, The Diver, the Gazelle and The S’more took the stage to sing their hearts out.
However, this week’s elimination turned out to be the highlight of the night as The Diver ended up being eliminated and was revealed to be none other than Vanderpump Rules villain Tom Sandoval.
The Diver performed second on Wednesday and wowed the crowd with his cover of OneRepublic’s “I Ain’t Worried.”
It’s clear that The Diver was trying to try and redeem himself with his clue package, where he talked about wanting to be famous since he was a kid, but never realized he would become infamous.
“I modeled, acted, and of course sang. I was always waiting to become a household name,” The Diver said in the pre-recorded package. “I just didn’t know it would be because everyone would hate me.”
Despite the impressive performance, he ended up being rejected, with Jeong and McCarthy being the only ones to correctly guess the secret identity.
“This was fun. It was a lot of fun. Being able to come here, perform, you know, behind a mask, not being judged, just being judged on my performance,” a soft-spoken Sandoval shared after unmasking. “It was very good.”
“And you’re so good, Tom,” McCarthy shared, before asking if it was difficult for the reality star to come out and be “vulnerable” after the controversy.
“Yes, it was, but it was nice. I felt protected under the mask,” he shared. “I mean, this costume is amazing. (And) there are so many talented people here. I’m honored to be a part of it.”
The reality star became something of a reality villain when revelations emerged earlier this year that he cheated on his girlfriend, Ariana Madix, with their mutual friend, Rachel Leviss.
The highly publicized scandal between Vanderpump Rules stars was quickly labeled Scandovaland a few months later, in May, Leviss and Sandoval called off their relationship.
Sandoval’s appearance in The masked singer comes in the middle Madix’ runs in the new season of dancing with the stars – in which the reality star has wowed the judges with her footwork and charisma.
The masked singer airs Wednesdays at 8 pm ET/PT on Fox.
