Three arrested and ‘punches thrown at police’ at Britain First Manchester march

Police have arrested three people at a Britain First march in Manchester on Saturday (April 18). Hundreds of protesters clashed with counter-protesters, consisting of anti-racism groups calling itself Resists Britain First, in the city centre.

The Britain First march started at 1.15pm with supporters travelling across Manchester. Both groups are being separated by barriers with hundreds of Greater Manchester Police officers on hand to deal with any outbreaks of violence. Locals are being warned of travel disruption throughout the afternoon with trams suspended across the city centre.

In a joint statement, Greater Manchester mayor Andy Burnham, his deputy Kate Green and city council leader Bev Craig said: “There is no place in Greater Manchester for anyone coming here to sow division and incite fear, hatred, or violence.”
