Three killed in latest airstrike in Ukraine’s kyiv

STORY IN DEVELOPMENT,

Two children were among the three people killed in the latest Russian airstrike on the Ukrainian capital.

A Russian night attack in an eastern district of the Ukrainian capital kyiv killed three people and wounded several more, city officials said.

Kiev’s military administration, in a post on the Telegram messaging app on Thursday, said two children had been killed in the Desnianskyi region on the capital’s eastern outskirts.

“Among the three killed in the Desnianskyi district, there were 2 children (5-6 years old and 12-13 years old),” the military administration wrote on Telegram.

The Kyiv Independent news outlet reported that multiple explosions were heard in the city in the early hours of Thursday morning and that the city’s mayor, Vitali Klitschko, said emergency workers were responding in the city’s Dniprovskyi district. , closer to the center of the capital.

Klitschko said on Telegram that a clinic had been attacked.

Debris from shells shot down by the city’s air defenses had landed in the Desnianskyi district, according to the city’s military administration, the news outlet reported.

Seven people were injured in the two districts, the military administration said. The airstrike marks the 18th attack on the capital in May and on the first day of June.

Images from the scene of a site attacked posted on social media showed rescue teams tending to residents in buildings, with smashed building materials strewn across the street.

It was not immediately clear what weapons were used in the airstrike.

Discussions on social media suggested that it was a missile, given the short time between the declaration of the air raid alert around kyiv and the impact. The alert was in effect for about an hour.

Ukrainian MP Inna Sovsun mourned the death of the children in “another missile attack”.

“The air raid alert is off now, but I can’t sleep. Holding my son’s hand, making sure he sleeps well,” Sovsun wrote in a tweet.
