Maddison was clearly Leicester’s player of the year – he not only scored 10 goals from midfield, but also provided nine assists. And he is the main salable asset, along with harvey barnesin the Leicester squad.
He has improved every aspect of his game over the past two seasons. His outstanding 2021-22 season propelled him into the upper echelons of English midfielders in the Premier League, and his continued form in a desperately struggling team this season ultimately earned him a return to the England equipment.
While its form has been pretty consistent, the way it’s been used hasn’t. He has been used as number 8 in midfield, to the right of the three forwards and behind the main striker as number 10, arguably his best position, but it has not interrupted his performances.
It will have to be sold to help finance the team’s big rebuild due to take place this summer. It remains to be seen how much Leicester can demand for him now that relegation is confirmed.
