Travel Advisor Success Stories focus on veteran advisors and how they achieved success. Here’s a look at Amy Harris, CTA, VTA, owner of Vacay Vibe Travels.

How did you get your start as a travel advisor?

I started my career in the travel industry about five years ago. Before diving deep into travel advising, I always wanted to travel, see the world and learn with friends and family. When planning vacations and finding the perfect getaway spots, I couldn’t get enough of the research part of it. My passion for exploring new places and crafting unforgettable experiences naturally led me to pursue a career as a travel advisor.

I decided to formalize my passion by joining Travel Leaders Network, which provided the perfect platform to transform my love of travel into a thriving business. Now, operating from my charming storefront, I specialize in creating personalized travel experiences and making dreams come true for our clients.

How did you build your business over the years?

In the beginning, I used my circle of friends for leads. It took me a little while until I found what I was passionate about. Then, I was hooked on romance travel – Mexico was my primary love – and the Dominican Republic and Jamaica followed. I started to arrange girls’ trips and honeymoons. Over time, I expanded my offerings to include diverse destinations and activities tailored to different interests and demographics, making sure there’s something for everyone under the Vacay Vibe Travels umbrella.

What characteristics make you a successful advisor?

Being an active listener and understanding my clients’ needs and desires deeply; and being transparent, friendly and engaging in communication, which helps build trust and ensure client satisfaction. The travel industry is ever-changing so it’s important to remain flexible and adaptable. I also have empathy; clients might get grumpy with you and not mean it. I just listen to them.

What has your most significant challenge been?

My biggest challenge has been when to hire people and scale the business. It is really scary to take that leap and hire someone full-time or part-time when you know you need them but are not 100 percent sure you can afford them yet.

I was doing crazy sales, making well over 70 percent of what our agency brought in every year, running the business, doing the marketing, bookkeeping and social media – the list went on. It wasn’t until I joined other groups and the Travel ALLIES Society and heard other ladies talk about their businesses that I realized I could actually start scaling my business and make more money.

What have your greatest accomplishments been?

Successfully establishing Vacay Vibe Travels as a trusted and beloved brand in the travel industry. Joining Travel Leaders Network has provided us with access to industry-leading resources and partnerships, elevating the standard of service we can offer to our clients.

Other accomplishments include staying ahead of industry trends through continuous learning, seminars and travel experiences; building and maintaining a loyal client base who return to us for their travel needs time and again; and setting up my storefront, providing a personal touchpoint for clients.
