Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Thursday announced a slew of measures to improve the public healthcare sector in the state.
Addressing the foundation-laying ceremony of a 50-bed hospital near Jackson Gate in Agartala, CM Saha said, “After the hospital comes up, local people can get healthcare services without going to Indira Gandhi Memorial (IGM) Hospital or Gobind Ballabh Pant (GBP) Hospital. In addition, people who visit Agartala can access healthcare services in this hospital… In this way, the burden on the two referral hospitals – IGM and GBP hospitals – would also come down.”
The chief minister added that the hospital would have an outpatient department (OPD) facility and a minor operation theatre.
“All the construction works are likely to be completed in the next six months. The Agartala Municipal Corporation (AMC) will run the hospital. The Mumbai civic body runs hospitals… So, I gave a suggestion to our mayor to set up a similar kind of hospital in the capital city. Our Health Secretary Kiran Gitte was also informed about the idea. After a search, we identified this location for the hospital,” the chief minister further said.
As per the initial plan, hospital services would be available from 8 am to 8 pm.
The labour department office was located at the site of the upcoming hospital, but it was shifted to a new building.
