True horror are the camera angles of Mario Kart x Resident Evil

The original Mario Kart It’s not the easiest game in the series, especially if you weren’t educated on its Mode 7-induced quirks, but that’s relative. It’s okay, it’s still easy to watch, it’s still easy to play, that’s why they still sell billions of copies of Mario Kart games to this day.

But ah, what if you change just one thing about it? What if you kept everything else the same but changed the POV behind the driver on the top screen to… a succession of static, old-fashioned camera angles? resident Evil games.

It looks like this, and it looks like hell.

This was done by SNES (and Mario Kart in particular) hacker MrL314, and what I like best about it is not the jarring horror of the angles themselves, but the fact that no concessions have been made to show where the player is. You just have to remember that you are (in this case) Mario and hope for the best (which explains why the AI drivers are so chill about it, while in every new cut you can see Mario hilariously sliding around like it’s a track of ice) .
