Former president donald trump on Thursday hugged a woman who was serving a prison sentence for her role in the deadly January 6, 2021 riots at the United States Capitol, during a campaign stop in New Hampshire.
In video shared by The Washington PostA supporter of the former president can be heard yelling “She’s a J6er,” reportedly referring to Micki Larson-Olson, who was sentenced to 180 days in jail after being charged with a misdemeanor for obstructing law enforcement efforts to clear the US Capitol grounds during the insurrection.
The meeting took place during a stop Trump made at the Red Arrow Diner after a rally in Manchester, New Hampshire.
The video shows Trump approaching Larson-Olson and saying, “Listen, just hang on. They’ll be fine”. The former president, who last year launched a candidacy for the White House by 2024, has said that would “seriously” consider granting pardons to those with sentences related to January 6, if he gets another term in office.
To date, more than 1,000 cases have been charged. for their participation in the insurrection.
At the restaurant, Trump asked Larson-Olson to “come over here” after she asked for a photo with him, and the two posed together for the cameras.
After the image, Trump also presented Larson-Olson with a pen and gave her a hug.
“You know what she’s been through,” he said. “You’ve been through too much.”
Before leaving the venue, Trump also signed his backpack, which he said he brought to the Capitol on January 6.
Larson-Olson told the Post that she is a member of Negative 48, a QAnon spinoff extremist group that attends Trump events.
Trump currently appears to be the favorite in the 2024 Republican primary, but more candidates are expected to join the race soon, including Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.
Meanwhile, Trump faces many legal challenges.
TO civil lawsuit filed by E. Jean Carroll against him in which the advice columnist alleges the former president raped her in a dressing room of a Bergdorf Goodman department store in the 1990s takes place this week. It is unclear if Trump will testify at the trial.
Earlier this month, trump made history by becoming the first US President to face criminal charges for his part in a secret payment scheme to porn star Stormy Daniels. He has pleaded not guilty.
