“I’m not going to dwell on the details … I’ll tell you, having seen the evidence in this case, there have been no violations of the law,” Findling said.
Melber reminded Findling of his role in the case.
“You are not the judge or the jury in this case. You are the lawyer,” he said. “We’re not talking to you because of your conclusions without evidence, but because of the evidence you can gather right now. I am giving you the time. If he can’t do it tonight, if he can’t give us any arguments, we’ll notice.”
Melber pointed to specific state statutes that Trump appears to have violated during recorded conversations with state officials.
Findling insisted that his client is “completely innocent”.
“I can tell you that we are incredibly familiar with those statutes. They are not new to us. We make a lot of political cases,” he bragged. “We are absolutely certain that we have seen the evidence that our client has not violated any of those.”
He did not provide such evidence.
Elsewhere in the interview, Findling repeatedly refused to say whether Trump lost the Georgia election.
“What does it have to do with me defending President Trump on this matter?” asked Findling.
Trump’s lawyer similarly avoided questions. during a CNN interview on the same subject on Monday.
Trump signaled over the weekend that he expects to be charged in another investigation in New York. The Manhattan District Attorney’s Office has been investigating whether Trump broke the law over his role in a 2016 hush money payment to Stormy Daniels, a porn actress who alleges she had an affair with him a decade earlier.
