Popular author Twinkle Khanna is known for her unfiltered and candid nature. More than once, many celebrities including friend Karan Johar and husband Akshay Kumar have spoken about her straight forward attitude and unabashed writing. And this time around, this popular writer turned reviewer with her husband’s latest film Raksha Bandhan, which is directed by Aanand L. Rai and features Bhumi Pednekar as the leading lady.

Akshay Kumar has always maintained that Twinkle Khanna is one of his biggest critics. However, it seems that the emotional tale of siblings in Raksha Bandhan has left her emotional. Sharing a sneak peek from the trailer of the film on her Instagram handle, Twinkle challenged movie-goers to return from the film without being teary-eyed. The actress turned writer spoke about the Aanand L. Rai directorial saying, “Raksha Bandhan made me laugh in the first half and cry through the second. A movie about the India we all pretend doesn’t exist. A reality that we wish didn’t exist.”
She went on to add saying, “We have changed terms, from ‘dowry’ to ‘gifts’ but in homes across social-economic strata, variations of the custom loom large. The wonderful Aanand Rai has skillfully built a world where siblings tease each other, support each other and ultimately triumph together. The challenge with altering mindsets is that these conversations circulate largely among the already-converted. It’s perhaps only cinema that has the power to burrow into the minds and hearts of people across the board. Raksha Bandhan may make you smile and crack up, but I dare you to leave the theatre dry-eyed:) #rakshabandhan”
Speaking about the film, Raksha Bandhan is slated to release on August 11 marking the same occasion. The film features Sadia Khateeb, Deepika Khanna, Smrithi Srikanth, Sahejmeen Kaur as the sisters of Akshay Kumar whereas Bhumi Pednekar plays his love interest.
