Typhoon Lan causes damage, power outages in western Kansai

Typhoon Lan made landfall on Tuesday morning, causing damage, injuries and power outages in the western Kansai region and surrounding prefectures.

Tottori and Okayama Prefectures experienced heavy rains due to the development of “zones of linear precipitation” — Dense, rain-laden bands of torrential clouds that can move slowly or stop, dumping heavy rain in a concentrated area.

As the storm passed through the city of Tottori, the meteorological agency issued a heavy rain warning for the entire prefecture, prompting the city to release water from the Saji River dam on Tuesday afternoon fearing the dam would it overflowed
