Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the , and sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in London, the rose 0.48% to hit a new all time high.
The biggest gainers of the session on the were Anglo American PLC (LON:), which rose 16.10% or 355.00 points to trade at 2,560.00 at the close. Barclays PLC (LON:) added 6.73% or 12.86 points to end at 204.00 and AstraZeneca PLC (LON:) was up 5.94% or 674.00 points to 12,026.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Legal & General Group PLC (LON:), which lost 6.36% or 15.80 points to trade at 232.80 in late trade. Schroders PLC (LON:) declined 5.45% or 20.00 points to end at 347.20 and St. James’s Place PLC (LON:) shed 5.18% or 23.00 points to 421.00.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1150 to 621 and 663 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.20% or 4.60 to $2,343.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 0.25% or 0.21 to hit $82.60 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 0.05% or 0.04 to trade at $87.98 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.26% to 1.25, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.05% to 0.86.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.15% at 105.54.
