Uber Eats driver recounts terrifying alleged assault outside an Essendon McDonald’s

A 27-year-old Uber Eats driver is recovering in hospital after a McDonald’s delivery turned violent.

The international student who is too afraid to be identified was picking up an order at the Niddrie restaurant on Thursday night when he was robbed.

“Doctors said to me the other day ‘you’ve been very lucky – you could have died’,” the driver told 9News, before thanking those who rendered assistance.

“I just want to thank you – you guys saved my life,” he said.

The incident took place in front of terrified customers, during the dinner rush and while the assailants fled, strangers and staff called an ambulance.

The university student has been left so shaken by this violent robbery he says he may never return to work and is sharing his story to serve as a warning for other delivery drivers.

Two 16-year-old boys have since been arrested.

A St Albans teen charged with causing serious injury and armed robbery, while the Glenroy teen has been charged with committing an indictable offence while on bail.
