Uddhav Thackeray Seeks United Opposition, Investigates Adani Group

Advocating for a united Opposition against the BJP, Shiv Sena (UBT) Chairman Uddhav Thackeray on Monday demanded an investigation into the Adani group, arguing that there should be no differences between opposition parties. He also ruled out an alliance with the breakaway partner BJP in the 2024 Lok Sabha and Assembly elections.

Speaking at the Loksatta Samvad organized by the Marathi daily Loksatta, Thackeray said: “The country and the state are witnessing a vendetta policy like never before. In the past, Balasaheb Thackersay and Sharad Pawar used to attack each other. But they never let their political differences get in the way of their friendship.”

“Now the Opposition is under attack. There is rampant misuse of ED, CBI, IT… It seems they are being run by those in power. Individuals are accused of corruption when they are in the Opposition but the same individuals, when they join BJPThey are cleared of all corruption charges.”

Seeking a united Opposition, Thackeray said: “Today all the Opposition parties are together fighting the BJP. West Bengal CM mama banerjee, Delhi CM Arvind KejriwalCongress and the NCP have all come together to fight the BJP.”

Holding that all opposition leaders will meet and decide on the Parliament Thackeray said that a prime minister’s face should be screened before the polls. On NCP chief Sharad Pawar, who opposed the Allied Congress’s position to seek a JPC investigation into the Adani group, Thackeray said: “I think there should be no differences within the Opposition.”

“There should be an investigation into the Adani matter. Where has 20,000 crores gone? It can be decided whether it is through the JPC or the panel recommended by the Supreme Court,” she added.

On his tenure as CM, Thackeray said: “I promised Balasaheb Thackeray that I would do a Shiv Sena worker the CM. The promise remains unfulfilled. It was at the behest of Pawar and others that I became a CM. I never aspired to become the CM. In 2024, my effort would be to bring the MVA back to power.”
