UK breaks its all time heat record — and it’s still morning

The U.K. broke its all time heat record today, with the town of Charlwood, in the district of Surrey, recording a temperature of 39.1 degrees Celsius.

The Met Office announced the provisional record before noon, warning that “temperatures are likely to rise further through today.”

The heat wave sweeping across much of Western Europe has broken all time records in locations across Spain, France, Ireland and Wales.

Temperatures are forecast to rise above 40C today for the first time in history on the British Isles. The dangerously hot weather has been made worse by climate change.
