UK city’s hospital car park cordoned off as police swoop area

A section of the car park at Leicester Royal Infirmary has been taped off by police following an incident. Emergency services rushed to the scene just before 4.45pm on Thursday, shutting off access to the car park while police officers investigated a crash.

Leicestershire Police confirmed the arrest of a 54-year-old man on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless/inconsiderate driving. He remains in custody. While a spokesperson for the force was unable to give an update on his injuries, they urged people to avoid the area.

There has also been “heavy traffic” on the roads surrounding the hospital due to the closure of the car park.

The spokesperson said: “Emergency services are dealing with an incident in the Main car park of the Leicester Royal Infirmary.

“There is currently no access to this car park and heavy traffic on roads around the hospital, please avoid the area if possible.”
