UK Conservative MP suspended over claim he watched pornography in parliament

LONDON — A U.K. Conservative MP has been suspended from the party after being accused of watching pornography in the House of Commons chamber.

Neil Parish, who chairs the environment, food and rural affairs committee, faces an investigation by the standards committee and the independent complaints scheme.

A spokesperson for the chief whip said: “Having spoken to the chief whip this afternoon, Neil Parish MP is reporting himself to the standards committee of the House of Commons.”

They added that Parish has been suspended from the Conservative whip pending the outcome of that investigation.

The allegation was made at a meeting of Conservative MPs Tuesday aimed at improving the gender balance of parliament, where attendees shared stories of sexism and sexual harassment at Westminster.

It comes after two weeks of misconduct revelations and claims of misogyny in parliament that have prompted many to call for a tougher approach to maintaining standards.
