UK holiday park issues statement after theme park crashes into liquidation

Bosses of a holiday park in a UK seaside town have issued a statement after the theme park next to their site entered liquidation. They have reassured visitors that the park will remain open as usual throughout the coming months.

Brean Theme Park, in Somerset, entered liquidation last week, sparking fears that Brean Leisure Park could also be forced to shut. Although Brean Theme Park does lease land from Unity Holidays, the company that also runs the Leisure Park, officials have reiterated that they are different businesses. This means the holiday park will not be affected by the situation at the theme park.

As reported by Somerset Live, Brean Theme Park, located in Burnham-on-Sea, opened in the 1940s but has now ceased trading. It housed over 40 rides and attractions and was set to reopen for the 2026 season on Saturday, March 24.

However, it appointed liquidator Hazlewoods last week which means the business has been forced to stop trading. It had suffered “significant financial challenges” since the Covid-19 pandemic.

Owners Unity Holidays have since released a statement on the Brean Leisure Park social media channels. They have reassured people that other venues, parks and attractions it owns in Brean will be opening as normal this year.

As well as the holiday park, Brean Play, Brean Splash and Brean Gym will reopen as planned. There are also major ongoing improvement plans taking place at Unity Beach holiday park.

The park temporarily shut in December for a major £10.2 million transformation. The projet includes a new outdoor pool, a lido-style section, a lazy river and revamped changing facilities.

A spokesperson for Unity Holidays said: “We’re sorry and surprised to read the news about Brean Theme Park, but we wanted to reassure you that it has no effect on Unity Beach, Brean Splash, Brean Play and Brean Gym. While Brean Theme Park leases land from Unity Holidays, it is not a business we own. The theme park is its own business.”

They added: “We continue to operate as normal, and Brean Play, Brean Splash and Brean Gym will re-open as planned for the 2026 season – all with many improvements and enhancements as part of our ongoing investment in our Unity Beach resort.”

Nicholas Stafford, from liquidator Hazlewoods, previously said: “The company traded throughout the peak summer season of 2025, however revenue generated over that time was insufficient to enable the company to sustain operations through the park’s usual winter closure.”
