LONDON, Aug 13 (Reuters) – Britain warned citizens going to Sweden on Sunday of possible terror attacks after Burning of the Koran by anti-Islam activists who have outraged Muslims.
In an updated travel advisory, Britain’s Foreign Office said Swedish authorities had successfully disrupted some planned attacks and made arrests.
“You have to be vigilant at this time,” he said, adding that “terrorists are very likely to try to carry out attacks in Sweden” with places visited by foreigners as possible targets.
In a statement acknowledging the change in Britain’s travel advice, Sweden’s national security adviser Henrik Landerholm reiterated the increased threats to Sweden since the fires.
Landerholm said the assault on Swedish Embassy in Iraq on July 19, an attempted attack on his embassy in Lebanon on August 9, and also the August 1 shooting of an employee in a Swedish office consulate in turkey contributed to the risk assessment.
Burning of the Koran is allowed in Sweden under free speech rules, but Muslims view burning their holy book as blasphemy.
