Ultra-luxury sub promises 360-degree underwater view and an 11mph top speed

A new luxury submarine is capable of transporting three passengers underwater at depths of up to 300m (984ft) at astonishing speed.

Dutch firm U-Boat Worx claim their bullet-shaped Super Sub is ‘the most flow-dynamic submersible the world has ever seen.’

Able to travel through the ocean at 10 knots, they say it is ‘3-4 knots faster than the top cruising speed of a bottlenose dolphin, and 7 knots faster than the average submersible.’

The premium submersible has a depth rating of 300 metres, and is said to have the same efficient flow dynamics as an electric car.

A previous incarnation of the Super Sub was thought to have cost over £5million and this new version will be no different.

According to U-Boat Worx marketing manager Roy Heijdra, prices for the vessel will start at $5.8 million (£4.8 million) for the base model.

U-Boat Worx CEO Bert Houtman explains: ‘We are very excited about this development.’

‘It’s something we have been working hard on, and now to have the most flow-dynamic submersible possible, we couldn’t be more pleased.’

The Super Sub has features a propulsion system with four powerful thrusters delivering 60 kW of thrust.

When combined with the rudders, it allows for steep 30-degree climbs and dives.

The result is the ‘smoothest and most exhilarating underwater experience’, all while maintaining a 360-degree view.

The submersible has been sold to its first owner and U-Boat Worx is executing sea trials in spring 2023.
