Police said gangsters of gangster-turned-politician Atique Ahmed, the main defendant in the 2005 Raju Pal murder case and who is currently in a Gujarat jail, gave Vijay Chaudhary his middle name, “Usman.” .
Vijay Chaudhary, alias Usman, who fired the first shot at Umesh Pal, the key witness in the 2005 murder case of former BSP MLA Raju Pal, was killed during an encounter on Monday.
In CCTV footage of the incident on February 24, Usman is seen holding a polythene bag as he opened fire on Umesh Pal.
Law and Order Additional Director General Prashant Kumar said: “A shooter involved in the February 24 incident was injured in an encounter with police in Prayagraj. He was rushed to a hospital for treatment, where he died,” Kumar said.
“This is a great achievement. We have made it clear that strict measures will be taken against those involved (in the murder) and those who hatched the conspiracy. Separate teams are working on the case,” the ADG said.
“I want to say that the UP Police have promised to arrest all those involved in this murder case and present them in court. We will gather evidence and prosecute everyone involved in this,” he added.
The witness, Umesh Pal, and his police security guard Sandeep Nishad were shot dead on February 24 in front of their house in the Dhoomanganj area of Prayagraj.
Who is Usman?
Vijay Chaudhary alias Usman (27) was a resident of Dhoomanganj in Prayagraj. He was carrying a cash reward of Rs 50,000 for his arrest.

His brother Rakesh Chaudhary is being held at Naini Central Jail and a dozen cases have been registered against him, including murder.
Vijay Chaudhary is the second accused to be killed in an encounter. Earlier, Arbaaz, who was the driver of the white van used by the assailants to attack witness Umesh Pal, was killed in the encounter.
How was Usman caught and killed?
According India today, police had identified five shooters but were unable to get any leads on the first shooter who was holding a polythene bag. They then received a tip that Usman was seen in the Kaundhiyara area of Prayagraj.
As police closed in on him, Usman opened fire, the sources said. The defendant sustained gunshot wounds to the neck, chest and thigh during the encounter and was sent to Swaroop Rani Nehru Hospital in Civil Lines, Prayagraj, where he was pronounced dead.
Usman’s wife says police killed her husband in a ‘fake encounter’
Meanwhile, Usman’s wife, Suhani, accused police of killing him in a fake encounter after picking him up early Monday.
Suhani said: “The police have done absolutely wrong. The law is not made to kill someone. The law is made to protect.” She accused Chief Minister Adityanath of doing all this.
She said that on February 24, the day of Umesh Pal’s murder, her husband, who drives his own vehicle (Bolero) for a cement company, had left the house saying that he had to go to work.
Suhani also claimed that she did not know that her husband Vijay’s name was ‘Usman’.
