UNESCO Institute Expresses Interest in Bengal Education System, Writes to CM Mamata

The sources said that West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee has already ordered the education department to work on the project and asked it to come up with proposals on how the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning can be included.

UNESCO has taken an interest in the educational system of West Bengal. The UN agency Institute for Lifelong Learning has written to the Prime Minister mama banerjee expressing his desire to participate in the state’s educational system, the sources said.

According to the sources, the prime minister has already ordered the education department to work on the project. He has also asked the department to come up with proposals on how the UNESCO Institute for Lifelong Learning can be included.

Essentially, the organization works for the expansion of education with a special focus on primary education and the requirements of children. The sources said the agency was interested in working with the Bengal government on social schemes like Kanyashree, Rupashree and Sabooj Sathi. These schemes are internationally recognized so the UN agency wants to work with the state government, they added.

Recently, the Durga Puja of West Bengal was listed as UNESCO intangible cultural heritage. This month, the state government will also sign an agreement with the World Trade Center for its hub in Kolkata, the sources said.
