A police officer and his brother have been arrested for allegedly gang-raping a woman under the pretense of marriage, police said Tuesday.
According to the police, the woman, a resident of the Saharanpur district, wrote a letter to the police superintendent claiming that the accused officer had promised to marry her after they came into contact.
She alleged that the defendant took her to different hotels and continued to rape her, after which she became pregnant twice, they said.
The woman also alleged that about six months ago she had filed a complaint against the defendant at a police station. However, on January 25 of this year, the sheriff charged with her forced her to give an affidavit about her marriage to the police. After this, he took Shamli to her older brother’s residence, police said.
The woman, in her complaint, said the defendant and his brother raped her at gunpoint there, they said.
The police said that a case has been registered in connection with this launched investigation.
