The FDA also said that extra doses are available for eligible immunocompromised individuals and select cases with children under age 12. “I got a young kid, and I’m perfectly healthy. She’s perfectly healthy. But, you know, the more people that get it, hopefully the less people get sick,” said Jason Mintz, a South Burlington resident. The most recent COVID-19 surveillance report from the Vermont Department of Health showed that there were increased levels of COVID-19 in wastewater in Burlington, South Burlington, Montpelier, St. Albans and Essex Junction.In Burlington, there was a spike in cases in August compared to other months since the last COVID-19 booster. Children, the elderly and immunocompromised individuals are most affected by the symptoms and side effects of the virus.”You could be compromising health if you’re not getting vaccinated regularly. You could be compromising, you know, children, elderly people who are immunocompromised,” said Kelley Labahn, a current UVM student. “There’s people that could be more vulnerable than you that you might not be looking out for.”Speaking with a few other people at Oakledge Park, some said they would not be getting the vaccine and that they didn’t feel that it was necessary to get another one.If you do plan to get the vaccine, you should reach out to your local pharmacy.There were 20 COVID-19-related deaths in Vermont in August.
