US encourages further action to reduce Israeli-Palestinian tensions

June 23 (Reuters) – White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan encouraged further action to restore calm between Israel and the Palestinians during a call with his Israeli counterpart, the White House said in a reading on Friday after an increase in violence.

There has been some of the worst violence in years involving Palestinians, Israeli forces and Jewish settlers in the West Bank in the past week.

Sullivan “expressed his sincere condolences to the Israeli people over the Hamas terrorist attack on June 20” during a conversation with national security adviser Tzachi Hanegbi and “also expressed deep concern over recent attacks by extremist settlers against Palestinian civilians.” said the reading.
