Analysis by Thomas Hill López-Menchero

Torres was present for Villarreal this season with both Emery and Quique Setién, the former Barcelona boss who replaced Emery when he left for Aston Villa. He only played 90 minutes for Spain in the World Cup in Qatar, their 2-1 group stage loss to Japan, but it was much more reliable for his club as they finished fifth and clinched Europa League football.

How does he play?

Analysis by Thomas Hill López-Menchero

Torres is a silky defender who has possession and likes to play from behind. Despite standing at 6-foot-3, aerial duels aren’t his forte, as his shaky association with Aymeric Laporte at Euro 2020. But he will play a key role in building Emery’s Villa, just as he did for his Villarreal side.
