Episode 3 of Marvel’s WandaVision is available now, which means that fans are able to see the conclusion of the storyline regarding Wanda’s sudden pregnancy.
The Disney+ series has been a wild ride so far, but the third episode continues to give drop clues as to what exactly is going on—clues that draw on the Marvel comic books.

The third installment of WandaVision is titled “In Color,” it finds Wanda and Vision living in a ’70s-style sitcom as they deal with Scarlet Witch’s surprise pregnancy. Of course, this isn’t a normal pregnancy, as Wanda goes through an entire nine-month pregnancy cycle in the span of just one day.
Throughout the episode, Wanda and Vision go back and forth about possible baby names. Wanda wants “Tommy,” while Vision is keen on “William,” and “Billy” for short. Turns out, though, that they can both have their way: Almost immediately after Wanda gives birth to a son, whom Vision agrees to name “Tommy,” she gives birth to another boy, whom they decide to name “Billy.”
Some detail-oriented comic book fans might immediately recognize the significance of those names in relation to the Scarlet Witch and Vision. They actually belong to heroes in the Marvel comics, but it’s a complicated history—the kind that would really only make sense in, well, the pages of a comic book. Check out our explanation below.
WICCAN
First introduced in the comics back in 2006, the character of William was born to the Kaplan family and his powers didn’t manifest until he was a teenager. He’s exuded a range of abilities in the comics, including teleportation to electrokinesis. It seems, though, that the possibilities for William’s powers are virtually endless, as his powers resemble the same sorts of reality-manipulating abilities possessed by Scarlet Witch.
William seeks out the Scarlet Witch to help him with his powers, but finds out that the Avengers have disbanded. He ends up falling in with another group of heroes—the super-powered teens called the Young Avengers—and adopts the name of Wiccan.
He eventually falls for his teammate, Hulkling—a half-Skrull, half-Kree hybrid—and they’re two of the few openly gay heroes of the Marvel Universe.
SPEED
Tommy was introduced in 2006 as well. He was born to the Shepherd family, and was in and out of juvenile detention throughout his young life. Eventually, though, all of that changes when—you guessed it—he develops superpowers.
If the codename wasn’t enough of a clue, Tommy possesses super-speed. He ends up accidentally destroying his school with his powers, and that lands him in prison, where he’s experimented on. That is, until the Young Avengers break him out and welcome him to their team.
Once Tommy’s freed by the Young Avengers, the heroes notice that Tommy and William look exactly alike—aside from Tommy’s white hair.
RELATION TO WANDA AND VISION
Now, this is where things get a bit complicated.
Back in the 1980s, Wanda and Vision had twin sons named Tommy and William. However, they weren’t created by normal means. Wanda used her powers to create magical constructs. It’s later revealed that Wanda actually used some of Mephisto’s life essence (he’s the Marvel Universe’s equivalent to the devil) to give the twin constructs life.
However, Mephisto eventually reabsorbed them, wiping them out of existence until William Kaplan and Tommy Shepherd were born as reincarnated versions of Wanda and Vision’s kids. Eventually, Scarlet Witch acknowledges this to the boys.
So, yes, magic helped a human and synthezoid bear children before a demon snuffed them out, only for the kids to be reincarnated years later. None of it is exactly “easy to follow” or “plausible,” but we still recommend reading the exploits of Wiccan and Speed in the pages of Young Avengers.
