Warning issued ahead of ‘world’s largest parade’

Motorists have been warned to expect delays as thousands of people are expected to join the world’s largest St George’s Day parade in Solihull today. The event has been co-organised by Raise the Colours and The Outlaws bikers’ group, where thousands are expected to march a 3.5-mile route around Shirley, Birmingham, in celebration of England’s Patron Saint, St George.

The group has erected 450 flags this week along the route from Stratford Road to Henley-in-Arden, including two gigantic 30ft St George flags. Organisers say they will create a “lively and inclusive atmosphere”, though acti-racist campaign groups urged the parade to disasociate from Raise the Colours, after its leader Ryan Bridge was arrested in connection with religiously and racially aggravated harassment in Oxfordshire.
