Former Royal Challengers Bangalore and India Captain Virat Kohli has revealed a funny interaction with a fan when he was on a flight with the Indian contingent to Delhi from Kochi in 2014.
On the second RCB podcast, Kohli recalled being asked by a fan to score a hundred in their next match and that he was giving captaincy advice to then-captain MS Dhoni.
“This incident was around 2014 when I wasn’t getting many runs and was sacked for cheap in a couple of one-day internationals. We were on a flight from Kochi to Delhi and the team was assigned seats in the front rows. A guy came in who was a big fan of MS Dhoni and was from Chennai. So just as I got up from my seat, that guy saw me and said, ‘Kohli, what’s going on? ‘I expect a hundred from you in the next game,’” Kohli recalled.
“I was young that turned the switch on me. I asked him what company he worked for and what his position was, and told him that he should become president within the next three months. When he said how was that possible, I tried to make him understand that even I was trying really hard, but it’s not a video game,” he added.

The former captain recalled how patient MS Dhoni was when he offered him suggestions on team combinations and how everyone, including the fan, burst out laughing after the players referred to him as their coach.
“He met MS and was obviously excited. But then he started talking about the team mix and the captaincy and started giving advice,” he said.
Dhoni was quite patient and was a very good listener. Until then the whole team started yelling: ‘Coach! Coach!’ while he tried to train everyone and that’s when he laughed and went back to his seat. It was a fun time,” he added.
