Warring generals are invited to peace talks while observing a week-long ceasefire.
Just over two weeks of fighting has plunged Sudan into a humanitarian crisis. Hundreds of people have died and thousands have been injured. Many more have been forced to leave their homes.
The conflict is a power struggle between former allies: the head of the army, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and the leader of the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo.
South Sudan has negotiated the latest truce, inviting both sides to talks while laying down their arms for a week.
What are the chances of the violence ending?
