What to Do This Weekend

Welcome. The question is not if it is a good weekend for making mac and cheese, but rather which mac and cheese recipe from this assortment of 11 to make. I’m leaning toward Lesley Enston’s Trinidadian macaroni pie, but Ali Slagle’s 25-minute one-pot broccoli mac and cheese is pretty tempting.

Now, to choose a movie. The Screen Actors Guild Award nominees were announced this week: good news for those who like to stay up on awards-season favorites. Perhaps Denzel Washington, nominated for Actor in a Leading Role, in “The Tragedy of Macbeth”? It comes to Apple TV+ this weekend.

If you could use a little mat talk, “Cheer” is back for a new season on Netflix. You could check out Mark Epstein’s new memoir, “The Zen of Therapy,” which Oliver Burkeman says is “warm, profound and cleareyed.” Or consider the movie scores of Jonny Greenwood, “The Power of the Dog” and “Spencer” among them.

It’s the middle of January in the middle of what might — depending on the news and your mood and the slant of the sun — be starting to feel like a very long winter. Thank goodness there are documentaries to stream and crosswords to solve. Thank goodness for mocktail recipes and a vernal equinox countdown you can bookmark and, once you pick a recipe, mac and cheese for dinner. Let me know which one you make.

Bracketing mac and cheese, are there dishes or recipes that you’ve found especially comforting lately? Write and tell us: athome@nytimes.com. Be sure to include your full name and location and we might feature your response in a future newsletter. We’re At Home and Away. We’ll read every letter sent. As always, more of our best ideas for the weekend appear below. I’ll be back next week.
