Some buy a nice new dress or a pair of heels to celebrate independence after a divorce.
But some celebrities have instead splurged millions on ‘bachelorette pads’ to celebrate their new solo life.
Some stars like Helen Skelton have chosen to move back closer to their parents – as she relocated from London to Cumbria.
Others have sought new adventures in the hustle and bustle, like Kelly Clarkson, who moved from Los Angeles to New York City following her 2023 split.
And just this week, presenter Vernon Kay reportedly bought a £3million Buckinghamshire house just 15 minutes away from his family home as he continues to work out his split from Tess Daly.
The BBC Radio 2 DJ is still living with his ex-wife but is said to be preparing to move out into his new home down the road – with the new place allegedly including a swimming pool and sprawling grounds.
Vernon, 52, and Tess, 57, announced they were separating after 23 years of marriage in May but have remained friends.
He isn’t the only celebrity to have taken the time to kit out his bachelor pad – and indeed it is not only male stars who have decked out their new single abodes with luxury decor.
Earlier this year, Jennifer Lopez moved into the $18million (£13million) bachelorette pad she bought in Hidden Hills, California last year following her divorce from Ben Affleck.
After a year of renovations, the stunning spread is finally up to the singer’s standards as she enjoys life as a single mother again.

In May, JLo, 57, shared the first photos from inside the compound located just outside Los Angeles, in the exclusive Hidden Hills enclave where neighbors include Kim Kardashian and Kylie Jenner
‘Jennifer is living inside her new property and is thrilled about it because it is like her very own Barbie dreamhouse,’ a source has told the Daily Mail.
‘It is girly and fun with pink and white colors, very feminine and yummy. She is over the moon about it and really living out her “happy phase” with no one to tell her what to do or how to behave. She is free.’
‘She also loves that the home reminds her of her Hamptons property, which she is ‘very happy with and where she has had so many great family moments,’ added the insider.

She purchased her new 8,600-square-foot equestrian estate in Hidden Hills in February 2025.
The New England inspired house is situated on 2.5 acres and is fully gated for privacy with mature trees lining the backyard so no one can see in.
The main house has five bedrooms, eight bathrooms, a gourmet chef’s kitchen and a custom home theatre.
There is also a guest house, a pool house, a swimming pool with attached hot tub and full equestrian facilities with a five-stall barn, a tack room, and a private riding arena.
The home used to be owned by musician John Fogerty whose hit songs are Fortunate Son and Have You Ever Seen The Rain?
The renovations on the residence began not long after she purchased the Hidden Hills home.
A source previously told the Daily Mail, ‘Jennifer is renovating the home to her satisfaction.
‘She is spending a lot of money because it’s big: there is the main house, the pool house and a guest house.’
The insider added that she ‘renovates every home she moves into because she wants a certain look, the JLo touch, which makes the place her very own.’
In June 2025, blue tarps could be seen covering portions of the abode in the midst of construction.
For the past three years, she had been residing in the massive $60million (£44million) mansion in the Bel Air neighborhood of west Los Angeles.
She and Ben had difficulty selling the large home complete with guest house, tennis court and infinity pool so he ‘gifted’ it to her post split.
In other instances, celebrities have left the hustle and bustle behind to move back to their home town.
In 2024, Helen Skelton, 43, moved back to Cumbria after her split from Richie Myler.
The former Blue Peter presenter split from England rugby star Richie, 36, in 2022 after eight years of marriage.
Helen, who had Ernie, ten, Louis, seven, and Elsie, four, with Richie, first moved back to her home town to live with her parents on their sprawling farm – before eventually moving into her own place in the country.

Meanwhile, after her 2023 split from Jim Toth – after 12 years of marriage – Reese Witherspoon, 50, expanded her already impressive property portfolio with an $18million (£13million) Tennessee mansion.
She had also, in the nearby area, snapped up a historic home for $4.2million (£3million), and a $672,000 (£461,000) modest suburban home.
She also bought $5million (£3.5million) Brentwood ranch, a much smaller compound compared to her previous homes in the area.
Her $18million home sits on four acres of land inside a gated community. The property spans 15,000 feet and contains two buildings, a spoon, and a tennis court.
She purchased the stunning property in an off-market deal, according to Love Property.
A couple of years ago, she gave fans a tour of one of the bachelorette pads while modeling fall 2024 fashions from her Draper James line.
She showed off the exterior of her white two-story home that had a lush garden complete with ivy and rosemary in the front yard. And in another video, she offered a glimpse into the incredible kitchen inside her Nashville ranch.
It is surrounded by multiple windows that offer natural light to easily stream inside, while the brick walls give a rustic feel to the room. Elsewhere, the space also features areas such as an ‘entertainment closet’.

Others – like Kim Kardashian, 45 – have stayed in their marital homes, but converted them into solo dens.
The reality star, who split from Kanye ‘Ye’ West in 2021, has for the past two years seemingly been tackling a major renovation of the $60 million mansion she shared with her ex.
She acquired the spread in the Hidden Hills area of Calabasas with him in 2014, the year they got married in Florence. They purchased the property for $20 million, and Ye then spearheaded a remodel that was rumored to have cost a further $20 million.
After Kim filed for divorce five years ago, she managed to keep the house as she and Kanye reportedly agreed on a buyout price.
Now she seems to be adding refurbishments of her own, as a section of the building was seen being reconstructed in 2024.
Kanye spent five years remodeling the property, enlisting the help of the famed Belgian interior designer and antiquarian Axel Vervoordt.
However, speaking on her family’s reality show last year, Kim admitted that she was ‘packing up my entire house’.
‘I’m fully remodeling and it’s not easy to do this with four kids,’ she shared, revealing she would move out for a year and a half while landscapers can add a whole new wing to the mansion.
It also included plans for a partner that she was manifesting.
Elsewhere, Jo Wood, 71, was once the ultimate city girl, flying around the world in private jets and sipping cocktails in London‘s most fashionable bars.
In 2019, she revealed she was living ‘off grid’ in a Grade II-listed property with six acres, relying on solar panels for energy, drawing all her water from a well and growing her own organic vegetables
But a couple of years ago she moved from one bachelorette pad – her £4million Camden townhouse – to another in Northamptonshire.
In 2019, she revealed she was living ‘off grid’ in a Grade II-listed property with six acres, relying on solar panels for energy, drawing all her water from a well and growing her own organic vegetables.
She is fully self-sufficient and eventually hopes to have a series of beehives and an orchard, too.
‘I want a bit of the Good Life. I went up to London first at 16 and thought I would live in London forever. My friends were shocked when I declared ‘I’m moving to the country,’ she shared of her move to the £1.1million farmhouse.
‘But London is getting so polluted. I just thought it was time to do something totally different.’
In 2023, meanwhile, singer Kelly Clarkson, 44, after separating from Brandon Blackstock, decided a change of scenery was needed for her new solo living, so she relocated from Los Angeles to NYC.
‘I was very unhappy in L.A. and had been for several years. I needed a fresh start,’ she told People magazine.
‘For the past few years, I’d just been showing up and smiling and doing what I’m supposed to do, but you can only compartmentalize so long until you break.
‘We told NBC, “I’m not trying to sound ungrateful, I just can’t stay here anymore for my mental health; for me and my kids”.
While she hasn’t shared many details about her bachelorette pad, however, Kelly divulged in 2024 that there is a ‘year-round’Christmas room’.

Speaking on her talk show, she explained: ‘I moved here and the house was perfect because it was in between my kids’ school and work but it’s too large.
“I was like. “What am I going to do with this room?” And then I decorated it the first year for Christmas and was like, “That was a lot of work, we’ll just shut the doors until Christmas.”
‘We have a whole room, and we’ll literally go in there and dance throughout the year and just put Christmas songs on – we love it.’
Elsewhere, former catwalk queen Gisele Bundchen, 46, scooped up an $11.5 million Miami mansion after her divorce from Tom Brady.
She bought the spacious abode on the exclusive Indian Creek in Florida in November 2022 – soon after news emerged that she had split from her ex-husband after 13 years of marriage.
Gisele then spent more than a year transforming the two-story dwelling into her dream home.
She was often seen outside the home talking to construction workers as they remodeled the mansion to fit her needs, and 20 months after she bought it, it was finally complete and ready for her to move in.
The house boasts five bedrooms and seven bathrooms, and it sits on a whopping 18,400-square-foot plot.
Outside, there is a massive swimming pool with an adjacent hit tub, two patio areas for living and dining room settings, and a small lawn.
The abode also comes complete with a generous boat dock where outdoor sofas and lounge chairs can be seen, and offers stunning views of the nearby creek.
It is located near ex Tom’s Miami pad, as it’s been said that the two wanted to live close to each other so that it is easier to shuttle their children Benjamin and Vivian back and forth.
Indian Creek is famously known as ‘Billionaire Bunker’ thanks to its mega-rich residents, which are a mix of celebrities and business moguls, like Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez, and Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner.
The privately owned residential enclave has 41 waterfront homes owned by 36 property owners, according to the village’s website.
Gisele also bought a second home in Miami in September 2023 – a $9.1 million ranch that she resided in while the renovations were taking place on her Indian Creek mansion.
That one comes with a full-size soccer field, tennis and volleyball courts, an infinity pool and a hot tub, a state-of-the-art equestrian rink, which includes 10 large horse stalls, a hibachi grill, pizza oven, BBQ pit, and a wine fridge.
