Canada says it is investigating “credible allegations” linking Indian government agents to the shooting death of prominent Sikh leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar in June, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau told lawmakers on Monday.
Canada is home to one of the largest Sikh diaspora communities in the world and is the site of Sikh activism that has upset the Indian government. Activist groups include the Khalistan movement, which seeks to forge an independent Sikh homeland in India called Khalistan. Nijjar openly defended that cause.
