Why I’m Optimistic About Destiny 2’s Savathun Season

The vibes are bad in the Destiny 2 community lately (not that I haven’t contributed with many of my items), but I did want to stop the hate train and say, you know what? In fact, I’m really looking forward to next season and I think there are reasons to be optimistic about it.

Destiny 2’s next season has no name yet, Season 22, but I’m temporarily calling it Season of Savathun, because the Season of the Depths finale indicates that we must now turn to our temporarily dead former rival, Savathun. , looking for a way to get through the Traveler’s triangular portal through which the Witness entered. Early previews of Final Shape have shown Ikora going through the portal to find a Cayde-6 who probably isn’t actually alive, but there are a few steps missing between that.

So why am I optimistic? Most of this has to do with the story, rather than upcoming activities that I can’t know about yet, other than some promising hints. So, come on and be positive:

Savathun’s Return – Since Savathun’s story helped make The Witch Queen a fantastic expansion, it seems that her resurrection could give the game’s plot the boost it needs to get back on track before The Final Shape. We should stop being Deep as an “epilogue” to Lightfall, something most players would like to forget. I would like to see Savathun resurrected in the beginning of the season so that she can be involved in the entire season, not just showing up at the end. In theory, all we have to do is convince her ghost, Immaru, to meet her corpse. This really shouldn’t take an eight-week ritual to complete, so we look forward to seeing her right away.

are you? Mary? – Since this is Savathun returning to the story, I am hopeful that two figures who were essential to her return in The Witch Queen and the year before are involved this time around, Eris Morn, who we have not heard from in an extremely a long time, and Mara Sov, last seen channeling endless energy on the Farm in Season of the Defiant. Eris has been dissecting Savathun’s body after she recovered, so I’d be surprised if she wasn’t a part of this season, and it’s been way too long since we’ve seen her. I also think Ikora and Osiris could be involved, given their history with Savathun. Sadly, it appears that Lance Reddick will no longer appear as Zavala, and the last few lines of him were reportedly recorded for Deep.

Savathun vs. Xivu Arath – We haven’t seen the sisters interact in a meaningful way yet in Destiny 2. One of the best parts of Season of the Deep was the introduction of Xivu Arath as a fully voiced character (with extremely good voice work!). If Savathun comes back and starts helping us, while Xivu remains a servant of the Witness, I’m really looking forward to seeing how that plays out.

More containment veil – Look, I know the delivery mechanism for Veil Containment absolutely sucks because 95% of the player base doesn’t know it exists or where it is or what you have to do to start it, but the actual story content has been fantastic, probably the best of the entire season, and we know more is coming. I’m looking forward to more reveals if they’re up to par with what we’ve seen so far. Just put a giant blinking node on the map for everyone to see and remove all the prerequisites for it.

Another “Experimental” Activity – Admittedly, Deep Dives was a genius idea that was completely scrapped at the end of the season with no join in progress, no way to coordinate the activation of higher levels in matchmaking, and the eventual integration of an exotic quest that people would run for. to complete. but bungie has said that Deep and now season 22 would feature “experimental” activities like when the Shattered Realm existed or battlegrounds were first introduced. If they can avoid the bad parts of Deep Dives and make something cool as the main activity, that could be a lot of fun.

Yes, there is absolutely reason to be skeptical, given the overall state of the game. But I think there are enough puzzle pieces here to make something really cool. We’ll learn more in a few weeks at launch here.
